The Chanel couture show will always give me two things, the first is goose bumps and the second is what I call the 'pinch me moment'. The 'is this really happening?' feeling that will never leave me no matter how many times I watch it.
The set for the SS14 show was the creation of the "Cambon Club" which revolved to reveal a sweeping staircase and French pop star Sébastien Tellier.
The statement details which we all presume and love to see at a Chanel show were magnifecently on display, the tweed, the monochrome and an entirely elegent silhouettes were in abundance, although in complete contrast to this ladylike aesthetic, Lagerfeld sent his models down the stairs in sport-luxe sneakers! Ok, so they naturally complimented in tone and were luxurious in the details, made from lace, python and pearl but this detail certainly surprised!
Another element which made a shocking appearance was the one item which Coco herself freed women from. The corset! Oh Karl the irony! Placed under boloros or cropped jackets and worn with drop waisted skirts this new accentuated proportion became a feature of the collection.
Accessories were given a modern edge in the form of metallic knee and elbow pads teamed with tweed and quilted bum bags!
Evening gowns remained classic with a simple silhouette albeit with a slightly higher hemline which rose to show the ankle. Dresses were fluid with transparent panels and featured sequin, feathers or metallic embroidery. The colour palette reflected the airy feel with shimmering and iridescent tones highlighted with a few black pieces which added a dramatic element.
