Over the last six months I began one of the greatest learning curves, far removed from my working sphere of fashion journalism. Last year I became the Poppy Appeal Organiser for my home town in the Cotswold's.

Apart from fundraising throughout the year, the busiest period is from September - November.

It has been a privilege and something that has already taught me lots of lessons, but it is the people I meet while I stand outside collecting who make an experience like this so rewarding.

Remembrance Sunday and 11th November are always important dates in my calender, for as long as I can remember I would watch my Father carry the Royal British Legion standard for our quaint Cotswold town and listen out for my Great-Grandfather's name, who died in the first world war.

Remembrance is a necessity but for me it has been a way of life, I was brought up into not only a forces family, my Father was in the RAF, but in a community with an active Royal British Legion and many friends in the services.

The Royal British Legion spend around £1,4 million a week supporting serving and ex Service people and their families, their work is vital.  So during Remembrance week please wear a poppy, like me, with pride.
