Inspired by the downtown cool,

this debut short film introduces the Pierre Balmain collection.

Today Balmain's diffusion line, Pierre Balmain, created with Ittiere Spa, will debut its SS12 collection in Paris. One would expect, the recently appointed, Olivier Rousteing at the helm of this diffusion collection, however with Ittiere Spa on board an independent design team have been working away instead leaving Olivier to concentrate on mainline priorities.

The main difference between the two labels is price. Pierre Balmain are attempting to react to the challenging economic climate and provide a more reasonable price-point for a piece by the luxury fashion house. Although the price is more reasonable to their mainline, Pierre Balmain is by no means inexpensive. For example tees will cost around £100 and approx £700 for a dress but in comparison to approx £900 -£2,000 for a pair of jeans, this is moderate.

Balmain's CEO Alain Hivelin said in a press release; "We see Pierre Balmain as a new and unique brand whose distinctive look and product respond to the needs and desires of today’s marketplace".

As if anticipation for this collection wasn't enough, Balmain have also released a video, shot and directed by Dutch photography duo Inez and Vinoodh, of the forthcoming collection starring model Abbey Lee Kershaw and her boyfriend Matthew Hutchinson, and their band, Our Mountain. This short film shows a little taster of SS12, Sleeveless printed blouses, a zebra-print blazer, body-con dresses along with the expected black skinny jeans and biker jackets.

The full collection will be seen for the first time later today during Paris Fashion Week, but for now take a look at Abbey Lee and her band mates rocking Brooklyn and Manhattan.
