LCF invited me to attend a significant event combining ballet with fashion design, at the stunning V&A Raphael Gallery.
The Ballet Russes Design Perspectives celebrates the dynamic impact of the Ballet Russes.  In an exciting collaboration between London College of Fashion with the English National Ballet, over the last year students from LCF designed collections inspired by the Ballet Russes.  Students were required to form their ideas by examining contemporary and historical fashion and engaging directly with the Ballet Russes.
To showcase the results of a highly successful collaboration, 25 students were asked to take their designs including garments and accessories into production.  The finished designs were displayed during this one night only performance and exhibition, entitled “Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballet Russes, 1909 – 1929.
Running alongside the exhibition I had the opportunity to watch a short film documenting the project, allowing a chance to take a glimpse backstage behind the scenes of the collaboration.

On this occasion I also had the great pleasure of watching a live performance by six ENB dancers wearing the student collections and choreographed by ENB Artist Stina Quagebeur.
Rob Phillips, Creative Director of the School of Fashion Design and Technology, who supervised the project said: “This rare opportunity bringing together three of the UK’s most important cultural organisations has been a fantastic experience for our students”.

It was a great event with a wonderfully creative atmosphere.
