Best Dressed At The Oscars

The 83^rd annual Academy Awards was held on Tuesday evening in Hollywood, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco.

Anne strived tirelessly to give us a glimpse of a bright and charismatic James Franco, although instead he came across as rather dull and Anne over-dramatic!

However, Anne’s stylist Rachel Zoe triumphed once again placing Anne in eight sensational outfits. First up was a strapless, scarlet Valentino gown. When show time commenced a flurry of changes followed.

To start the evening Anne wore a strapless Givenchy gown, next a silver-tasselled Oscar de la Renta dress, after this an Atelier Versace burgundy gown and then my favourite look of the evening a vivacious, fitted, satin sapphire gown by Giorgio Armani. – Yes, as if these were not enough there are three more looks to go!

When it came to putting on a show, Lanvin’s Alber Ebaz designed a custom made tuxedo for the next look which was followed by a Vivienne Westwood silver and black ball gown. To end, Anne wore a crystal encrusted, high necked dress from Tom Ford’s new womenswear collection.

The anticipation then shifted to the ‘Oscar goes to...’ moments! The King’s Speech, my film of the year, picked up Best Picture, Original Screenplay, Best Actor in the form of Colin Firth and Tom Hooper received the Oscar for Best Director.

There were also no surprises that Natalie Portman, wearing a plum, wide v-neck, Rodarte gown, took home the Oscar for Best Actress for Black Swan. Natalie had initially chosen to wear a gown by Dior, although with the recent situation, decided it wasn’t something she wanted to do.

My favourite dress of the evening was by Givenchy worn by Cate Blanchet. An elegant pastel, column dress with structured shoulders, a slight pulled in waist and an interesting centre front panel of beading.

Mila Kunis continued the fondness for the pastels for her red carpet moment, wearing a Lavender chiffon Elie Saab gown with draping at the centre front and diagonal tiers of lace.

Michelle Williams looked stunning in Chanel, maintaining an un-fussy look with a pixie cut hairstyle and subtle make-up. My second favourite gown of the evening!

Dame Helen Mirren demonstrated once again how to work the red carpet in Vivienne Westwood. This dark pewter hue was a brilliant shade for her, and the deep decolletage neckline showed off her neck and shoulders.

Gwyneth Paltrow shimmered in a sleek, minimalistic Calvin Klein silver metallic dress with an interesting narrow v neckline.

Other highlights included the graceful Hailee Steinfeld in her pale pink princess Marchesa dress, with subtle beading, which she also helped to design! This young starlet is ideal inspiration for young teenagers; she always dresses to her age, and never above!

Jennifer Lawrence demonstrated how a flash of colour can ‘wow’. There were mixed opinions on her dress, but I think she looked sensational. She let the colour do the talking while the rest of the look was kept to a minimum. She didn’t overload herself with jewellery either, sticking to a gold Chopard understated bracelet and Judith Leiber clutch bag as accessories.

It was another great red-carpet occasion with beading and crystal embellished dresses taking the limelight. Pastel hues were among the favourites, with a handful of celebrities choosing a vivid colour.

My tip for the Oscar winner for next year is definitely Gnomeo and Juliet – Remember you heard it here first!
